A Schuylkill County metallic pigments manufacturer is expanding.
Silberline Manufacturing Co. in Hometown is undergoing an expansion of its production capabilities to produce pigments compatible with water-borne coating systems to be more environmentally friendly.
The company is making what it described as a multi-million dollar investment in the construction of a new 22,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and will be purchasing new manufacturing equipment.
With the expansion, the company expects to add eight additional staff members within the next three years.
To assist with the project, Silberline received a funding proposal from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for a $100,000 Pennsylvania First grant and was encouraged to apply for up to $2.25 million in Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority loans.
The assistance was coordinated by the Governor’s Action Team.
When the project is complete, Silberline, a 60-year-old family-owned company, will be one of the biggest water-borne compatible aluminum pigment manufacturers in North America.
Silberline has five manufacturing plants: two in Pennsylvania and one each in Indiana, Scotland and China. Its Pennsylvania plants still produce and export the majority of its products that are sold into Asia.
The company is currently run by third-generation chair and president, Lisa Jane Scheller.
