Republican announces she’s running for the Lehigh Valley’s congressional seat

Former Lehigh County commissioner Lisa Scheller announced Monday she’ll run for the U.S. Congressional seat in the Lehigh Valley.

Scheller, a Republican, seeks office in the 7th District, according to a news release. The seat is held by Democrat Susan Wild. It covers all of Lehigh and Northampton counties and part of Monroe County.

Scheller pledged to serve a maximum of four terms in the House. She believes an outsider can bring change to a gridlocked Congress, according to the release.

She took control of her family-owned company, Silberline Manufacturing, after the death of her brother in 1998. The company makes aluminum-based pigments for the automotive and other industries.

A resident of Allentown, Scheller is the mother of two grown children.

She was elected to the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners in 2011. She served as board chair for two years of her term. She calls herself a fiscally conservative fighter who as a commissioner advocated for spending restraint, lower taxes, job creation and an end to special interest giveaways, her release says.

She was raised in Tamaqua, overcame drug addiction in her youth and went on to receive degrees in mathematics and engineering from the University of Colorado and Lehigh University, her release says.

Last year, she opened Hope & Coffee, a coffee shop and community center in her hometown, the release says.
